Problem of the Week
Sorry there hasn't been one for a while. This is from a live game so I'll let you know what happened next week.
Problem 1
I was just wondering what you would do on the following hand...and more precisely on the river of this hand.
Simplified version
I hold 7 5 on BB and one other person has chucked in a small raise - i call. Blinds are currently 50-100 going up to 100-200 in 5 minutes.
flop comes J 9 7 rainbow...having played against this player for a while i get the impression that he is unbelievably shit and hasn't really comprehended the term 'FOLD', he is a calling station and would raise any pair he hit on the flop...
He checks and I bet the pot, he calls...I am pretty certain he hasn't got top pair.
Turn comes 9 -
He checks, I bet a little less than the pot and he calls...I have never seen the guy slow play a set or top pair so now I am pretty certain I have the best hand...in fact I know I have the best hand.
River comes J -
He checks and this where I come unstuck. Now all I have is 7 high with 2 pairs on the board so essentially if he has any card higher than a 7 he wins...we are both now pot committed (not that he would understand that) and I have about 600 chips left and he has maybe 100 more than me...
I am guessing the pot is about 2000...and the only realistic way I can win the hand is to go to all-in - but the guy is probably not going to fold...
So do i either check and lose (most probably) or attempt to win the hand with an all-in bet - which I reckon has about a 10% chance of working?
With the blinds as they are I am basically in trouble if i dont win the hand.
What would you do?
