Made my second trip to my local club last night (6th out of 23 in a £5 rebuy, out of the money) and it's a lesson in poker life in the sticks. Or maybe it's just Hastings. Seems to be a club for middle-aged divorced men with serious emotional issues who regard newbies with a suspicion bordering on hostility. Incidents including pointing at another newcomer wearing a GAP t-shirt and saying it means 'Gay and Proud' (cue rants about him being gay for about 10 minutes), a guy who went ballistic when I raised his big blind, and very heavy drinking.

The people who run it are very nice though and I think a bit embarrassed about the clientele they have to depend on to make money. Classy it is not (although it is a small but nice card room.)

Having said all of this I really did quite enjoy it and learned a lot about keeping my head despite them consistently trying to tilt me. Best of all i rode my single fiver to the final table when the average spend was over £40 - I've never seen anything like it. Puts hairs on your chest.

Having said all of the above the standard of play was pretty good (albeit maniacal during the rebuy hour), there was nothing underhand, and the tourny manager kept a good eye on proceedings. They also have a nice bounty system.

I went from 1000 to 11000 in the first four hands thanks to multi-callers when I held KK (flopped another K), AK (flopped AK) and AJ (flopped an A v 77).
