My mate Shane invited me the this Poker event yesterday:
http://poker.meetup.com/1102/calendar/5188537/
It's billed as a free poker night for beginners, but there was quite a mixed standard of play.
It takes place in a nice pub near Chancery Lane, with a good selection of beers & food, and attracted approx 50 players (there were 5 tables to begin with).
I was slightly dubious as to how eratic the play would be given that there was no cash pot to play for, but as a winning incentive, the organisors give out a trophy each week to the winner, as well as wine for second and third place finishers.
They also hand out a wooden spoon to the first one out, which is quite fun.
And what a fun night it was too!
I liked the mixture of folk, everything from city types, different nationalities, people with dark glasses, and a fair few old men who look like they live in the pub.
I really enjoyed the banter at all the tables I sat at. All quite friendly and helpfull.
The organisers regulary change up your chips to keep everything ticking along, and the blings go up pretty quickly 15 min intervals.
There's also table service so you never go thirsty.
I finished in 3rd place and won a bottle of wine (should keep the other half happy for a few days) and got my picture taken for their website.
It really was a fun night, and i'll definately be back.
They're on every Tuesday.
(Shane was asked by the organisors if he'd be interested in dealing for some corporate poker events. I'll let you know how he gets on) _________________ "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes..." |

Got a nice email from the organisors of this event which the following info may be of interest to the poker queens:
Important News for Nov 7th
We have a film crew coming along to film our event and they will be having
a presenter and lighting/camera crew so put your best poker faces on that
night - maybe we can do a best Actor Award lol.
Summer 2007
This seems a long way off, but we are in the early stages of putting
together a massive Free to Enter London Amateur Poker Tournament. We are
looking for sponsors as this is written and are in early negotiations for
a possible first prize of £2,500 - not bad as it wont cost you anything to
buy in:) _________________ "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes..." |

Although they say the game starts at 19:00, on past weeks they've not started till 19:15.
If you fancy going, i'm sure they'd save you a seat if you let them know what time you'd be there.
Shane has the organisors contact details, so i'm sure he'd sort it out for you if you wanted to attend.
I'm going to have to give this Tuesday a miss though. _________________ "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes..." |

Although I wasn't able to go, m'colleague, Rich won this last night, and now has his little trophy smugly displayed on his desk. I'm obviously going to have to go along next week to wipe that grin off his face! |
