Alright folks,
I venture back to that poker night in Clapham yesterday.
This calander details all their games, and a few others:

Anyway, I was hoping to improved on my dismall performance the last time, but went out early again - This time my Ace Queen was bettered by an Ace King.
There was about 22 players last night, spread over 3 tables.
I stayed and watched till about 23:00, at which point there were about 7 people left, but only 4 with serious chip stacks. (top 4 pay out!)
The standard of play at this place is very high indeed (in my opinion), i'm determined now to get to the final table one week.
I must admit I am struggeling to get used to the chip denomonations. You start with 8x25s, 8x100s & 3x500s.
First blind level is 25 & 50.
The problem I was having was that I was limping in with some hands in order to see the flop, but it seemed the standard raise before the flop was up to 250 total. Too rich for my cards.
In the end, I raised to 500 preflop with my AQ (blinds were 50 & 100), was called, flopped an Ace and I went all in (approx 1200) - but still lost.
The also hold poker nights every Friday, attended by about 50 people, and have a later licence so I guess the main game gets the chance to play out.
I'm going to go to the next Wednesday one on 1st November. _________________ "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes..." |

I ventured back to the Clapham poker last Wednesday for my third visit:
http://poker.meetup.com/89/calendar/2006-11/
After a dissapointing early exit on my virst two visits, I was bloody determined to stay in the game for more than 20 mins.
...........
not to be.
I once again went out early, admittedly making a mistake when I was holding A 10, having made 2 pair on the flop (Aces & tens), I called someone's all in and was beaten by a straight draw which they got on the turn or river (can't remember).
Lesson learned - I definately won't be going out early next time - Even if I have to chuck away a pair of aces!
After a few more folk went out, a cash game started up on the spare table.
I've always given the cash games a miss on my previous two visits. As i'd just lost a tenner, I didn't want to put up any more cash.
But as Christian was up for it, I gave it a go.
I bought a tenners worth of chip, and decided that as soon as I doubled up, i'd cash in.
After the first or second hand, I had already achieved that objective, and was sitting on about £22 worth of chips.
The blinds were 25 & 50p, and don't go up at all in the cash game.
There was 10 players, and some serious money going in (people were losing their chips, then immediately buying £20 more chips!).
The action was all quite fast (faster that gutshot!), and I was feeling a little out of my depth just trying to keep up, but I stayed in, limping in to see a few flops that I didn't get anything on.
My cards were drying up and the betting was getting intense - (RAISE £30 - Chris L gulps) so I wasn't getting too involved. (I chucked away a pair of Kings, which turned out to be the right thing to do)
My only other major hand of the night was when I was holding A 7, and the flop came out something like A, 2, 5.
After a wee bit of ok betting, and another Ace appearing on the turn, someone went all in, and though I had him covered, it would've put me down to a couple of quid if I called. As I had already comitted £10 to the pot, I went for it.
He was bluffing, and I went up to £49.25. It was getting close to 23:00. I wanted to cash out, but waited on Christian losing his money before I took that option.
So, all in all not too bad.
For my first ever cash game I turned my £10 in £49 and played some fast & furious poker.
Needless to say, the drinks were on me afterwards.
Incidentally, when we left, the tournament table was down to the last 3 or 4 people, with about 45 mins left, so i'd say the game was probably played to it's conclusion. (top 6 paid out - not bad for 28 players).
They play at the Clapham Club every Friday, and every other Wednesday. _________________ "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes..." |

nice
i too had my first experiece of cash games last week at the hollywood park casino in los angeles. i paid my cab fare there and back by turning $100 into $159 in two hours. all at $1-$2. (got the cab from santa monica where i was doing some work for the week).
think is, we played 'e-poker', which was electronic. we all had little screens in front of us and it would only show our cards when we put our hands on top of them thus keeping them hidden. a bit strange at first but soon got used to it and it allowed a lot more hands to be played. |
