So, what's everyone's opinion of this one.

3 players left in a tournament. (for the sake of argument, lets just call them Helen, Matthew & Chris).

Blinds are 500 & 1000

Helen is chip leader (with probably 2/3 chips)

Chris has about 1000 chips more than Matthew.

I this hand, Helen is small blind, Matthew is big blind, and it's Chris to act first.

Chris gets dealt Ace Queen unsuited.


Matthew's big blind has left him with approx 600 chips - Not enough for the minimum 1000 bet, so he's unlikely to fold his big blind whatever cards he gets.

Question is - Do I play my Ace Queen to try and win some decent chips to challenge Helen, or sit this one out and let Helen take on Matthew in what will probably be his last hand?

Depends what you want. Another player in the same game, who for the sake of argument we shall call Me, went out a couple of hands earlier in a similar situation and wondered whether he should have stuck it out and waited for the small stack to go out.

He tells me however that he took the chance to double up and get some chips in the hope of finishing first rather than hanging on for one extra point. Sadly came up against AK.

In short if you wanted to get an extra point you should have folded. If you wanted the chance to win the game you probably did the best thing and got unlucky.
