Blinds are 750 and 1500. You have 3200 left and are in for 750 on the small blind. The average stack size is at least 10,000. Everyone folds to you.

You have AK of spades.

The big blind to your left is Yoshi. He has somewhere between 8 and 10,000. You know that Yoshi is a strong player but one who likes to gamble. You've seen this a few hands earlier when he called an all-in pair with 4 and 6, and made two pairs.

What do you do?

If you are going in for another hand it will use up any useful chip power that you have (which isn't much as it is). To see it through you will need to use all your chips. To call will put you down to 1700 chips, with Yoshi likely to raise you. I think AKs all in is the only 'make or break' option you have.

I've read somewhere that when you're chip stack is down to about 4 big blinds then all-in is the only option while you still have some chip power, which is why I went all-in with pocket dimes the other week, only to get unlucky with Matthew's pocket rockets.

Looks like a fairly automatic all-in to me.

With that chip stack if you don't do it now the blinds will soon deprive you of any power to pose a question to a player. The fact that Yoshi thought about it before calling with his Jacks shows that he doesn't see it as a 'desperate to double up' move. In a couple of more rounds he would and you would have to make this move with weaker cards.

He would have to have AA or KK to be an odds-on favourite before the flop. Any other pair is a coin toss and any un-paired cards give you an edge.
