I've been playing this (online) more frequently that Hold'em of late. There's less of the psychology and more of the certainty of the hands you have. I think you probably play about as many hands as in Hold'em pre-flop, but you find yourself folding on the flop more because you immediately know if you've hit or drawing. Where common winning hands in Hold'em are probably trips, sets and pairs, in Omaha they are straights, flushes and full houses - Ace or King high because it is likely someone else holds the same hand. You usually have to hold A2 or A3 to win the low hand.
I've seen many crazy hands played and won (like a single pair) which becomes an advantage to you in the long run. You still get the bad beats, i've lost a big bet, beaten by Aces full of Kings when I had Kings full of Aces!
Any thoughts..? |

I found this quote quite amusing. It concerns Omaha high but considering the game we played the other night I found it quite interesting.
Quote: | I’ve heard it said, and I know it must be true. Omaha is game of a million different hand possibilities….and none of them win. What a game. Every time I play it, I’m reminded of why whenever I go into a casino card room, Pot Limit Omaha is the biggest game going. If you like to gamble, then this is your game. It’s hard to find a good Pot Limit Omaha game in Baton Rouge because most players are a understandably intimidated by a game in which the best possible starting hand is only slightly better than the worst possible starting hand. |

I think the reason he says it's for people "who like to gamble" is because he doesn't have enough patience. Tom McEvoy reckons that sometimes (in Limit High) you might only get one winning hand per hour.
We could have a go at Pineapple one evening after a game. It's got more in common with Hold'em to Omaha, certainly more fun and nowhere near as confusing! The only two differences are that: you get dealt 3 cards; you discard one of them after betting has finished on the flop. |

Hmm.. where did you get that from? I've read a blog where the writer can frequently finish 3rd in NLH STTs by not playing any hands.. And there was one 5 player tournament where i came second without having to anything except fold!
Anyway, why do I have to be the guinea pig?!! |
