I'm going to Gutshot tomorrow, with a couple of mates i've been introducing to the wonderful world of poker for the past few months.

It's the £5 beginners night.

It's only the second time i've been. so am quite looking forward to it.

If anyone else fancies it, then do pop along.

Well, I stuck to my magic trick of only spending £5, and lasted about an hour into the 2nd session.

The blinds were 150-300, I was dealt Ace Jack suited and bet 900. That scared everyone but one away. Flop came out 10, Q, 5, (2 same suited cards) - leaving me with a straight & flush draw, though I was a little scared of that queen.

I checked (I now know this was a mistake)

Other guy bet 500, and I went all in with about another 1000.

He had J, Q, (I think unsuited). The turn & flop didn't help me out and he won with a pair of Queens.

There were 160 players in all, and I guess I went out around the 80-90 mark.

It was good to be back.

They now give a little intro at the start explaining that it was beginners night, so go easy on any newbies - I liked that.

My first table was a bit too serious for my liking, even though I did quite well (the highlight was scooping a couple of all ins with my well disguised full house - oh yes, I enjoyed that one!).

One of the organisors remarked that my table was full of semi-pros, as he recognised quite a few of the regulars. This didn't make me feel too great, but I didn't do too badly with my chips.
At the end of the buy in section, I had about 2000 - Not great, but I was relatively happy with that.

At the start of the second section I got moved to another table that was a lot more friendlier, (apart from the guy I knocked out in my first hand at the new table).

All in all I had quite an enjoyable evening, didn't lose a fortune, and picked up a couple of poker tips.

I'll definatley be back!
