January 15th 2012 Sunday evening SLT £2 freezeout 7 players, £14 pool 1st Emma £10 2nd Anton £4 3rd Dave 4th Catherine 5th Mark 6th Jack 7th Richard The biggest turnout of the 2011/12 season also saw a first win for Emma, some Casino Royale-style clashing of big hands, the debut appearance of Anton's cucumber and Mark's crumpet, and the intervention of the devil. Not bad for a Sunday evening down the bar. Perhaps it was the larger number of players, or perhaps the amount of alcohol that had been consumed by several competitors before the start, but we were almost straight into the action with some early forcing bets hoping to reduce the field. In what seems to be developing into a dangerous habit, Richard was all-in within the first half-hour. He was a danger to no one but himself, though. Hitting two pairs on a flop of 8-Q-4, he committed the schoolboy error of waiting a card too long to go all-in. A 9 on the turn gave Anton a straight, he called duly called and Richard was out just before 7.30pm. A few minutes later and it was Catherine's turn to force the betting. But there were no takers for her all-in bet, Jack and Anton preferring to rely on a steady accumulation of chips to create some early clear water between them and the rest of the field. Anton was guilty of some early breaches of cucumber etiquette, but no punishments were imposed, and after an initial warning he managed to control his worst excesses. As if to raise the stakes, at 8.20pm Satan himself decided to intervene in the game. Dave was all-in with A-J and had been called by Jack, with Q-8 suited, when a beastly flop of 6-6-6 had everyone reaching for the salt. For the time being at least, the Prince of Darkness was clearly on Dave's side, a Jack on the turn and an Ace on the river giving him a choice of full houses. Clearly shaken by the experience, four players were out in the following 30 minutes. At 8.28pm, Jack went all-in on a board of 4-4-8, but Emma's pair of 8s gave her a full house and Jack was out. Two minutes later and Mark was all-in with a mighty pair of 2s. Anton called with pocket 9s, the board proved no use to anyone, and Mark too was out, his lucky crumpet apparently not so lucky after all. At 8.35pm Catherine went all-in with J-8 and Emma called with A-J of diamonds. Catherine paired an 8 on the turn, but it was also the third diamond on the board, Emma made a flush and Catherine was out. A few minutes before the break, Dave was all-in with A-6 suited and Emma, with K-2, called again. This time the devil had clearly deserted Dave's cause, Emma made trip-Kings and Dave was out. Just as it was impossible to imagine the action getting any more dramatic, the after-break resumption saw a hand worthy of Ian Fleming himself. For the second time in the evening there were trips on the flop - this time three 2s - despite odds against a flopped 3-of-a-kind of 424-1. Chips poured into the middle as Anton hit a full-house on the turn, but his boat was to prove no match for Emma's four of a kind. Now reduced to a severe chip deficit, Anton 'Le Chiffre' Krause was soon all-in with K-4. Emma, holding K-9, called. A flop of 6-J-A maintained Emma's lead, but a subsequent 10-K meant the kickers became irrelevant and the pot was split. At just after 9.45pm, Anton decided to put faith in his cucumber alone. Challenged to go all-in blind, he did just that. Emma called, but her 8-9 suited proved no match for Anton's Jack-high. But Anton's salad-inspired survival was to prove unsustainable. Just as the clock ticked past 10pm for the second week running, he was all-in again with 10-2. Emma called with J-9, and with both players pairing their high card on the board, the Jack prevailed and Emma took her first victory. Just don't suggest the devil had anything to do with it... See you all soon for more of the same. R
August 10th 2012
5 Players £10
1st – Matthew
2nd – Richard
3rd – Anton
4th – Marcus
5th – Ellis
Everyone played for a bit.
Then, at 8pm Richard went all in with 370, which Marcus called.
Flop was 8d Qc 3d
Richard showed Qs Kh
Marcus had Qd 6d
The turn card was 4s
The river was 9h so Richard doubled up.
At 8.05pm it was Catherine’s turn to go all in with 385. Matthew called. Catherine showed A 8 to Matt’s Q 10. The board gave Matthew a straight, with
Jd Ac 9h Kh and 6h and Ellis became the first one to go out.
At 8.25 there were some big raises pre-flop – 900 in the pot!
The flop matched expectations, with 7s 8c and 2c.
Richard liked it – he went all in, with 945. Marcus called – putting himself all in, as Richard had him covered.
Richard had a pair of Qs, to Marcus’ A 6.
The 9 on the turn and 10 on the river gave Marcus a straight, and a massive pot.
The next bit of excitement was at 8.35, when Richard went crazily all in pre-flop with 570. Both Marcus and Anton start counting, with Marcus pretending not to count. This didn’t fool Anton, who folded. And Marcus DEFINITELY called.
Richard had Kd 3d to Marcus’ As Qc
Luckily for Richard, he hit a 3 on the board (5s 3h 6d) and is pair held, with 8d and 7s the turn and river respectively.
At 8.50, with a board showing Ad Jd 10d 10s (and a pot of 600) , Richard put Matt all in , with a bet of 490. Matt chickened out and folded
All of a sudden it was 9pm and, in a typical pre-break flurry, Anton bet 300, provoking Matthew to go all in – which both Marcus and Anton called. Ooooh a threeway!
Matthew had A K
Marcus had 10-10
Anton had K-J
“Liquid Poker”
The flop was good for Matt, with 6h Kd 2h
The turn was 4s
The River was 8h
Well done Matt – beating off Anton and Marcus both at the same time. Impressive!
At 9.30pm there was more flurrying – this time post-break.
The flop was showing 3c Kh 4s and Marcus went the crazy all in, with 315.
Richard folded like a pussy, but Matthew didn’t, showing Ah 5h to Marcus’ Ac 6c
The 8h on the turn and 10c on the river meant Marcus doubled up by playing his 6 kicker.
9.40pm – After a flop of Ks 6c 7s it’s Anton’s turn to go all in with 1055 – called by Marcus, who was covered.
Anton Kc Jd
Marcus Js Jc
Richard folded like a pussy – he only likes to play all-in on his own terms.
Neither the 3h or 4h helped Marcus, and he went out.
Next excitement wasn’t until 21.55, when Anton sticks his whole stack in pre-flop (1410) and 7 and 8 of spades. Matt calls – unsurprisingly, as he shows Ac 10s… and his overcards hold up, through a flop of 5d 3s As, a turn of Qc and a river of Kh. Bye Bye Anton.
At 10pm with a flop of 5s 3h 9s Richard goes all in with 990 and Matt calls.
Matt’s 5c Jd is no match for Richard’s 10c and lucky 3 again… the turn giving him a third one to make trips (river 7d) and he doubles up.
Finally, after some back and forth, at 10.07 something REALLY exciting happens…
Richard goes all in pre-flop, with 1380 and Matt (with 600 already in as big blind) calls.
Rich has Kh 10c
Matt has Qc 5s
The flop gives Matt a low pair – being Jh 5c 8d
Neither the turn (3h) nor the river (As) help Richard and MATTHEW WINS THE GAME (told you it was an exciting bit)
The end.

August 5th 2012 - 6 players £12
(I actually didn't get a note of whether it was winner takes all or 1st and 2nd place)
1st Bob
2nd Matthew
3rd Anton
4th Catherine
5th Mark
6th MarcusFlop
Not much of any interest happened, with both Mark and Marcus dwindling down over the first hour.
At 8.10pm Marcus bites the bullet and goes all in with 320 and A4, with the 4 being a club (not sure what the ace was) and a flop with an Ace and 2 clubs on it.
Unfortunately for him, Ellis calls with AK, not enough clubs come down to make Marcus a flush and he's relegated to the bar to chat rubbish to Dave.
Mark obviously felt left out of the bar conversation, going all in at 8.11pm with Queen-something. Bob calls and shows J-10
Flop is Q-8-9 - making Bob the straight.
There is much discussion ensuing regarding what cards can help Mark. Ellis reassures him about the prospect of him hitting 4 Queens, by informing him that she folded one. Sure enough, Bob's straight holds and Mark goes out.
At 8.20 Matthew clucked out of calling an all in by Bob. Board was showing 9c Ad 2d 3h As
Bob says he had 9-9 but we know he had 9-2.
The next casualty, occurring at 8.45, is almost too painful to be spoken of.
Ellis goes out, having gone all in (1115) with a straight showing on the board - beaten by Bob's little flushy one. (IDIOT!!!)
Moving swiftly on...
9.40 Anton crumbled to Bob's all in of 1425 - board showing 10h 6s 8s 4d 9h...
Probably still reeling from the humiliation of backing down, Anton finds himself locked into an all in against Bob with K-10 against Bob's K-9.
The flop hit Bob's 9 (Q-9-4) and neither the turn nor the river helped Anton, who insists he was robbed. And perhaps he was, but in a walking around drunk in South London, with his wallet out, kinda way...
So that left Bob up head to head with Matthew. I haven't noted the time, but at some point Matthew went all in with 1815, with a flop of 6s Jc 10s.
Bob called. Matthew showed 10h 2h to Bob's Jd 5d.
The turn showed a Jh and Matthew was drawing dead.
WELL DONE BOB

July 1st 2012
Sunday evening SLT £2 freezeout
5 players, £10 pool
1st = Anton £5
1st = Mark £5
3rd Matthew
4th Dave
5th Daniel (aka Mr Reliable)
Apologies for the late posting - I took loads of notes last Sunday - in retrospect far too many, so here are the best bits.
Four players made a start at 19.20 with two potential joiners blinded in - Mr Reliable eventually arrived at 19.50 and Em dropped out gracefully at 8pm, the agreed cut-off. In fact, Daniel arrived just as it was his turn to "act", but the first thing he did was fold.
Early play was fairly steady, with not many hands shown, although Mark won a reasonably large pot with pocket tens. At 20.30 In the biggest pot so far, after a run of possibly ill-judged decisions, Daniel went all in with A 5; Matthew called with Q 8, and when the board came up 5 J K | Q | 9 Daniel was obliged to pay an early visit to New Village for noodly commiseration.
Dave didn't last much longer. At 20.50, the board came up K(s) T 5 and there was a spate of high-value betting. When the three of spades came on the turn, Dave went all in with A 2 spades and Matthew called with K 3 off. The prospect of a flush remained unfulfilled for Dave when 6 of another suit came on the river and Matthews 2-pair won out.
By this point Anton was "serenading" us with renditions of 'Haven't had a card all night' from Dealer's Choice and the banter had reached fever pitch with such gigglesome phrases as 'Queen on the turn'.
Matthew's by now massively tumescent stack was proving a worrying threat to Anton and Mark's prospects and Mr Lyne played the part of chip bully with aplomb. In the final hand before the break, Anton went all in with his dwindling pot of 345 before the flop. Matthew called, Mark folded. The board came up K T 4 | 3| A with the result that Anton's paired kings beat off Matthew's Q 5. Suddenly a Krause victory looked more likely.
As in all the best sports, play was suspended for cake (with the Avengers on it) and the unwrapping of plastic firearms in honour of Anton's birthday. No opportunity for innuendo was overlooked: 'Unhand my weapon, sir!' and 'Oooh, Ironman's helmet!' were two of the better ones.
After the intermission, play resumed with blinds on 75/150 and things got serious. Matthew employed the time-honoured tactic of slurping his tea in a menacing manner and scared Anton off when he was considering a bet. This strategy was repeated with less success a couple of hands later as Anton was shuffling.
Mr K's was luck apparently changing and he was looking for chances to double up. Initially he made a few all-in bets, but despite his relatively modest stack, there were no biters. until , that is, he shoved his 600 over the line and Matthew took the bait. The tension mounted when the flop came up A 2 Q - Anton's K J hadn't hit anything, whereas Matthew had bottom pair with his K 2. Nothing changed when a 5 appeared on the turn, but Anton hit a straight on the river T and doubled up again.
Not to be outdone, Mark also went all in, was called by Matthew and won, to double up. Mr L's stack was now looking a bit depleted.
At this point in proceedings quick internet search revealed the following scintillating factoid: the Estonian for 'Bless you!' is 'Terviseks!'
With the clock ticking and the blinds up to 100/200, the pace quickened and the stakes grew ever higher. Anton (Q T) went all in with 1,250 and Matthew (A 4d) called. When the flop came up A Qd 3d, both players had paired and the turn card of Td put Matthew on a flush draw, but gave Anton the edge with 2-pair. The river card (8s) changed nothing and so Anton won by far the biggest pot of the night.
Matthew had few choices with such diminished chips and limped along, while Mark bet all in for seven consecutive hands but there were no callers. Anton finally knocked Matthew out when he no longer had enough chips to cover the 400 big blind.
It was getting late and despite a large chip advantage, Anton proposed splitting the pot and Mark accepted.

Whilst the nation huddled around TV sets and squeezed into crowded public houses to shout their alliegance to 11 overpaid prima donnas kicking a pig's bladder around a field a hardcore of undaunted poker players sat down at their own
field of dreams. Some considered this a futile exercise. Others seemed unable to comprehend. Indeed one fair-weather poker player expressed surprise approaching incredulity that we would even consider having a game at a time of such
national import. But against the odds five champions donned metaphorical visors and armbands and showed that in the battle of Poker versus Football there can only be one winner. To commemorate this historic day this weeks report will
be interspersed with a selection of fascinating Poker versus Football facts.
The game stared a little late as only Anton, Matthew and Dave were in the bar at 7.00. Mark was upstairs at the R&G rehearsal, however, which Chaz assured us would finish at 7.00 on the dot. At 7.35 Mark joined us and Catherine who had
also been slightly delayed. We were also blinding in Daniel as we had not seen his message regarding unavailability. His chips came off the table at 7.45. Possibly a personal best.
Early play was dominated by Anton who picked up a lot of chips without having to show down. Either he was playing an uncharacteristically loose game or he was getting some monster hands. (The latter).
At 8.11 Matthew considered putting Catherine all-in but elected to make a bet of 100 after a long decision making process accompanied by Rawhide from the Blues Brothers soundtrack. With a board of Q, 2, 2, 3, 4 Catherine showed pocket
queens for a full house. Matthew declined to show. 'Soon we'll be living high and wide'...

At 8.19 Mark went all-in with 265 and was called by Matthew and Dave. No futher betting took place and with a flop of 6, 7, 9 Dave's 7, 9 handsomely beat off Matthew's Rockets to take the pot. Mark out!

Matthew went all in just before the break but got no takers.

Series of Poker in 2009 at the age of 97. The youngest WSOP bracelet winner is Annette Obrestad (2007 WSOPE Main Event; 18 years, 364 days). Chalk one up to Poker in the longevity challenge. 2-1!
At 9.41 Matthew went all-in with 375 and Dave called. Matthew showed K, 6 and Dave A, 5. Daves hand improved to a flush and Matthew was out. Matthew offered to shuffle for Catherine's deal as she is a 'shit shuffler'. Dave suggested
that she is 'cack handed'. We laughed.

Things were hotting up and Matthew went to the Chinese. By the time his duck was cooked so was Dave and Catherine's goose.
Dave went all in with 1145 chips and Catherine called, showing K, 3 to Dave's A, 10. The board came Q, Q, K, 3, 4 and Dave was history.

it was not the flush that came but a six for a full house and Anton was the winner.
And so was poker (Without even having to resort to the tie-breaking 'Football's Coming Home' v 'The Gambler').

Ellis was the latest of the late players, joining the game at 19:30
No winner (Tee Hee)
22:34 Catherine 2nd= £9
22:34 Jon 2nd= £9
22:30 Matthew 3rd
21:36 Anton 4th
21:35 Mark 5th
21:26 Jason 6th
20:45 Daniel 7th
19:48 Pete 8th
19:45 Chaz 9th
Match Report written during the game. The 80s CDs played throughout. Many music lyrics and titles also recorded in the match report when they were heard. I did not share this with the players.
Everything written is true.
Food involved - Fish and chips, Fried Rice, half a popadom.
In early skirmishes, Jon seemed to be having the best of it.
19:36 Big pot - Jon Mark Chaz
Mark was scared off then Jon scooped a massive pot with a ten in his hand and one on the board. Good enough to beat lots of large bets apparently. Play is as loose as a goose after a bad salmon mousse.
After that Chaz was all in with nothing great and Ellis took him out.
19:48 Anton put Pete all in. Pete's 77 was not enough. Pete out.
Who's next to go craaazy?
19:54 Matthew threw coke on the table.
20:04 With A-Ha's 'Take On Me' playing in the background, Ellis raised a nervous Mark out of a big pot. Morten's shrill voice seems to shriek with laughter at the outcome.
Next up "Relax" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Betting not relaxed though, and as Holly Johnson comes in our ears, Matthew wins a big pot with, ironically, a "straight" made "on the flop".
Matthew beat Jason with some uncommitted bets from both players to the tune of "Stand and Deliver". He was Adamant he had the best hand.
20:29 Mark back from the brink drawing a K and a J to break Jon's Aces. Thanks to Jon's all-in, Mark also scooped a fair few of Ellis's chips as she folded to Jon.
"We Close Our Eyes" was playing by Go West (apparently). With two eights on the board, Anton said "It's eight-ier than the music". Very apt comment given the (as yet unknown to him) match report theme.
20:38 "Don't Leave me this Way...."
Daniel did. All-in with QJ but Matthew had AQ. Daniel out.
Mark immediately couldn't remember who had gone out. "Do you remember me?" sang Sister Sledge.
"Angel is a Centre Fold" plays. 'Nuff said.
Matthew only seems to get cards with pretty pictures on. Or ones that match. Or both. He shows KK, Jason having, sensibly as it turns out, folded to Matthew's raise.
21:01 Ellis all-in with flop KJ9. I now realise I didn't write anything else down about this.
21:07 Jason, in some desperation by now, sees a Q6 of hearts and goes all-in. Jon calls with a mighty AJ of clubs. Jason puts his head in his hands and starts cursing his luck as Jon gets a J on the flop but a third heart on the turn gave Jason a streaky flush win to keep six players alive at the break.
No food purchased during the break.
**Update from Matthew**
Jason
I must point out a massive factual error in your report!
I did in fact purchase roast duck with bean sprouts and noodles in a box (£4.30 from New Village, 4 Norwood High Street, SE27 9NT) during the break last night. I think your readers should be told the truth.
**End of update from Matthew**
"Wishing I Was Lucky" plays as Jason goes all-in with J10 seeing a 10 on the flop. Catherine calls with KJ and top pair. Jason out. Sad face.
"Everybody Wants To Rule the World" plays. But Jon finally beats the unbeatable Matthew with 44 and getting another 4 on the flop.
"Wouldn't It Be Good To Be In Your Shoes?" as Mark's all-in KJ was beaten by a Q helping Ellis's KQ.
Daniel dealing like Les Dawson playing the piano, but he seems to be giving Ellis a succession of good, playable hands and Matthew's luck finally dries up.
Jon goes all in. "If You Don't Know Me By Now" plays. Ellis AQ. Jon Q10. But the poker Gods smile on Jon and give him a straight.
It's 22:10 and I'm a bit bored because three players have been trading blows for 45 mins without much change overall. But now Ellis seems finally to be taking a hold on the game. Oh, maybe not.
22:27 Finally a big three way. Jon now leading.
No music playing sadly. We discussed the very dull movie snoreathon "The Artist".
22:30 Finally Matthew goes out just as the bell goes because the bar is now shut. Ellis gets loads of 8s on the board to win.
22:34 Mark suddenly pops back to suggest that the game could be finished on a handshake and all of a sudden Jon and Catherine agree to split the money and call it a day.
Oh well. A little like "The Artist" - a bit of a damp squib. (Actually, this is, of course, a little harsh. To have six players still in at the break, and three players still in at 22:30 suggests a good game was played by many.)
Music suddenly back on. "Tainted Love". Brilliant.
Well played all. Aspall's anyone?

May 20th 2012
Sunday Evening SLT £2 freezeout
8 players, £16 pool (eventually)
1st Anton £12
2nd Jason £4
3rd Matthew
4th John
5th Bob
6th Catherine
7th Cherize
8th Gavin
Our biggest game for a while was augmented by two players from the R&G cast - welcome to John and Cherize. Six players sat down to start the game in a very busy and buzzy bar, with Matthew and Catherine joining us shortly afterwards from an audition.
Cherize professed to not really know how to play but if that was the case she picked things up very quickly and the early play was dominated by her and Bob who, by his own admission, had sampled quite a lot of liquid refreshment that afternoon. These two loose cannons won several large early pots and caused the regulars to have to adjust their games and become much more cautious. As play settled down the chip stacks gradually evened out again and there was little action until...
At 8.34 Gavin went all in with a very low stack and was called by both John and Catherine forming a potential side pot and further betting. After a flop of 5♠ Q♥ 2♣ Catherine put in a bet of 100 and John folded. Gavin showed J, 6 and Catherine showed K, 9 but a 6 turned up on the river to double Gavin up.
At 8.44 Jason went all in with 740 in chips and was called by both Cherize and Gavin who could not cover the bet, putting three players all in! Jason showed A, Q, Gavin A, J and Cherize A, 10. Jason's hand held up and Cherize and Gavin were both out with Cherize taking the higher position by dint of having slightly more chips than Gavin going into the hand.
A short while later (still before the break) Anton went all in after a flop of 3♦ 8♦ 6♦ and Cat called with pocket 3s. Her trips were dwarfed by Anton's flush however when he showed J♦ 10♦. The turn and river then came down A♦ K♦ and and for a moment it was thought to be a split pot but newcomer John pointed out that Catherine was playing the board but Anton's jack and ten played, giving him a higher flush. Catherine out.
Shortly after the break at 9.20 Anton went all in after an A, 2, 5 flop and was called by Bob for all his chips. Bob showed A, 3 but Anton's 3, 4 suited showed that he had flopped a straight. The turn and river were no help to Bob and he was out.
At 9.26 John went all in with 420 chips and was called by Jason who showed 2♥ 10♥ to John's 4♣ 9♣. The board was no help to John with Jason hitting a 10 on the river knocking his opponent out.
At 9.34 Matthew went all in pre-flop and was called by big-stacked Anton. He looked in good shape when he showed A 6 to Anton's Q 6 but the poker gods were not smiling on him and a queen on the flop sent him packing. Puny gods!
This left Anton and Jason heads up with Anton holding about 80% of the chips. Jason played a bold game, going all in frequently and causing Anton to back down but he had to hit a hand sometime and having made the decision to call with any ace or any pair an A, 4 came along and he called Jason's all in bet. Jason showed J, 3, the board came 8, 2, 8, 8, 5 and Anton's ace played and won the final hand.
Well done to all who played and I hope to see you all next week. With some regulars returning might we have to play two tables like in the old days?

May 13th 2012
Sunday Evening SLT £2 freezeout
5 players, £10 pool
1st Chris
2nd Anton
3rd Richard
4th Matthew
5th Emma
With only Anton, Matthew and Chris at the table for 7pm, we decided to blind in another three places for any late shows.
This was a good idea because Chaz almost, ALMOST joined in. He was so close to playing, but ah, the discipline of the man succeeded and he delayed joining the poker queens till next week.
It nearly all kicked off in the first hand, with Chris taking on Anton head to head. We got all the way to the river, and both players had bet big (about 1200 in the pot). Unfortunately Chris last bet wasn't big enough to scare away Anton, who called with his AJ (two pair) beating Chris 99.
Emma joined in after about 40 mins of so, and the most noteworthy hand that popped up was against Anton, where both players had A8 and split the pot.
Richard joined us after about 1hr, and after a few aggressive hands, put Emma out of the game:
On a flop of 5♥ 3♥ 10♠ Emma was all in for 470, which Richard called.
Emma shows K♥ Q♦ against Richards A♠ 5♣
The turn 6♥ and river A♣ gave Richard two pairs, and a nice chip stack.
Thanks Emma for dealing the rest of the game for us.
Matthew was bleeding away his chips and needed to make a move soon, which he did going all in for 260 which Anton called.
Matthew shows A♦ 5♦ against Antons 7♥ Q♥
The flop is 9♥ 5♥ J♣ K♠ K♦
Matt doubles up with two pair.
With the blinds getting quite hefty, that double up wasn't enough to make Matt comfortable, and soon again had to make a move going all in for 370, which was called by Chris.
Matt shows K♥ 9♦ vs Chris A♥ Q♣
The flop - A♠ 2♣ 3♣ 8♦ 9C, giving Chris a high pair which was enough to knock Matthew out.
Despite taking an early chip lead, Anton has lost of few hands along the way, and was forced to go all in for 335 against Richard.
Anton shows A♣ 4♦ versus Richards 5♣ 3♦
I didn't note the flop, but nothing weird happened, and Antons better hand held up for a nice double up.
After a preflop raise of 700 by Chris was called by Richard, the flop came A♣ 9♥ Q♥. Richard put Chris all in for 1000, and after a wee thing, called.
Chris shows A♥ K♠ vs Richards A♦ 10♠
The remaining two cards J♣ 5♣ were no help to Richard and gave Chris a hefty double up, putting him in a comfortable chip lead.
A few hands later, Chris put Richard all in for 470, which Richard called.
Chris shows Q♠ Q♥ vs Richards 6♠ 7♥
the flop of 3♣ Q♦ 2♥ 2♠ A♣ gave Chris a pretty Full House, and knocked Richard out.
Interestingly enough, as Chris was the Big Blind when Richard was knocked out, we evoked the new rule of 'you can't be Big blind twice' (see the rulings thread). Admittedly, we were still a little shaky on what to do, but it essentially meant the dealer button moved two places. I think this worked out ok.
Chris was a pretty dominant chip stack by now, but still had to play carefully and not allow Anton to double up.
The end came when Chris allowed a flop of J♦ 5d 8♣
Anton (holding j♣ 2♥) went all in
Chris was holding 9♣ 7♥, giving him a double belly buster straight draw (needing a 6 or a 10). I wasn't really sure what the correct move here was, but called anyway to see what happened:
(interestingly, the odds at this point were approx 66% to 34% in Anton favour)
The remaining 2 cards came A♠ 6♠, giving Chris the straight for the win.
Quite a nice game I think.

True, but the reason for this was to ensure that the game finished in a reasonable time, which was crucial in games with 10-12 players. Not finishing is never an issue with our puny games of 4-6 players so I would suggest that there is possibly no need to change the timings and we should let the remaining players continue at the 20 minute level. Obviously others may disagree and if faster blinds are what people want then so be it.
This is why I have invited discussion about these rules. Some of them may not be appropriate anymore (including starting the clock at 7.00). Hone away!
